September 1998 VHF QSO Party
(from left to right: Drew [N3XSU] Tony [N3KTA] Dave [N3BXK] & Molly [N3IPS]) Here we are posed in front our temporary antenna array. The mast is mounted to a tripod which was bolted to a wooden pallet. Of course it was guyed so it didn't come crashing down. There is a homebrew 8-element UHF antenna on top, a Cushcraft 10-element VHF beam in the middle, and a Cushcraft 5-element six meter beam on the bottom.
Here is Dave, N3BXK, standing by the array, enjoying a refreshing (albeit non-alcoholic) beverage. He was on duty this day but stopped by to partake in the activities. We again operated from a camp near Smethport, Pennsylvania, FN01, at about 2100 feet ASL. We had a good time and made some decent contacts. Most importantly, we enjoyed amateur radio! (On a sad note, the R.L. Gustafson camp burned to the ground the following winter. We spent many enjoyable hours there. It will be missed). All photographs ©1998 A.L. Sanderson
